Gauteng Metros Record Significant Progress In COVID-19 Fight

THE GAUTENG Department of Health says out of a total of 14 237 contacts traced, 10 665 people in the province have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and therefore they have de-isolated.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Gauteng as of Wednesday this week now stands at 4 276, with 2 169 recoveries and 33 deaths.

City of Johannesburg remains a hotspot and has so far recorded the highest number of cases, standing at 2016 confirmed cases, 15 deaths and 1236 recoveries.

Johannesburg is followed by the City of Ekurhuleni with 887 cases, 10 deaths and 536 deaths.

The provincial health department said that the West Rand currently has the lowest cases of 387, 4 deaths and 60 recoveries.

The country is currently at alert Level 3 of the lockdown but COVID-19 cases seem to be increasing at an alarming rate.

The City of Tshwane has a total of 536 cases and 309 recoveries so far.  

Meanwhile, the Gauteng Health Department has also announced the resignation of its Chief Financial Officer Kabelo Lehloenya.

Lehloenya will be replaced temporarily by Mphume Llale who will be acting CFO for the department.
