THE West Rand District Municipality mayor, Hulett Hild, and council whip Alme Swart were removed from office on Tuesday after a successful motion of no confidence sponsored by the ANC and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
According to the EFF, the removal of Hild and Swart through the motion of no confidence was a victory against racism and the perceived arrogance of the Democratic Alliance (DA).
“The DA continue to display white racism and disregard for back people even though they were allowed an opportunity to lead the municipality without acquiring the necessary electoral majority. The DA has in fact made it worse since taking over the West Rand municipality,” EFF provincial chairperson Nkululeko Dunga said.
Dunga added that the DA has allegedly directed resources and service delivery towards predominantly white areas while neglecting black townships by defunding them.
“Consequently, the local municipality has not been able to deal with issues of cable theft, violent crimes, and GBV across the region. The state of road, water, and sanitation infrastructure is appealing. The people of Khutsong have been living under constant threat of sinkholes and have not been allocated safer land and houses for human settlement,” he said.
