ActionSA has announced that it is in talks with the ANC to work hand-in-hand to topple the DA from power in the City of Tshwane and later in Ekurhuleni.

On Thursday, ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba said should they get a mandate, they will unseat DA’s Cilliers Brink as the Executive Mayor of Tshwane.

“Ekurhuleni and Tshwane will be next. As ActionSA, we are busy consulting with our structures. Yesterday, I had a very successful meeting with our PEC [Provincial Executive Committee] in Gauteng. Early next week, we’ll have meetings with our REC [Regional Executive Committee] in Tshwane and our caucus,” he said.

Mashaba has described the party’s relationship with the DA in Tshwane as toxic and abusive, despite the fact that the two parties run the metro together.

He confirmed that discussions with the ANC to possibly work together to take out the DA from power had begun.

However, the Gauteng ANC has told its national headquarters that it intends to negotiate with the DA over the City of Tshwane (please attribute this).

ActionSA has multiple seats on the City of Tshwane’s mayoral committee and serves as the metro’s deputy mayor, but seemingly it’s not enough for the party to endure working with the DA.

Mashaba claimed that working with the DA in Tshwane had been challenging, and that the DA wanted his party to dance to their tune.

“For us as ActionSA, we cannot really be in an abusive relationship forever, so we have the fullest right to exercise our right when you try to abuse us and think we’ll stay in an abusive relationship, not with us,” Mashaba said.

ActionSA has  been emboldened by its candidate Nobuhle Mthembu’s election as the new Speaker of the Johannesburg Council.
