The ANC has emerged victorious in two key wards during the final round of municipal by-elections.

In Ward 2 of the Msunduzi Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal, the ANC reclaimed a seat from the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).

The party increased its share of the vote to 51.36%, up from 38.44% in the 2021 municipal elections.

Voter turnout stood at 39.81%, and the newly elected councillor is Mbongeni Zuma.

In the Northern Cape, the ANC secured Ward 7 of the Hantam Municipality, previously held by the Democratic Alliance (DA).

The victory solidifies the ANC’s full control of the municipality, marking the third municipality the party has reclaimed since its 2021 Local Government Elections losses.

The ANC garnered 45.68% of the votes, an increase from 34.53% in 2021. Voter turnout was 48.27%, and the new councillor is Gerrit Laban.

ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri said the party is “humbled by the trust and confidence shown by the people.”

She said the by-election results underscore the ANC’s efforts to regain its standing in local governance after setbacks in the 2021 Local Government Elections.

“These victories reflect the resilience, hard work, and dedication of the ANC to serve the people,” Bhengu-Motsiri said.

“They affirm that the ANC remains the movement capable of advancing the daily needs of South Africans and delivering the change they seek. The people’s trust inspires us to work tirelessly for a better and more prosperous future.”

The ANC also extended gratitude to voters and volunteers for their support and efforts during the campaigns.

Bhengu-Motsiri called on all ANC public representatives to serve with “integrity and dedication” in addressing the nation’s pressing challenges.
