The City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department (ESD) has urged residents to stay alert after the South African Weather Service issued a yellow Level 4 warning for disruptive heavy rain.
The ESD called on communities to seek help if needed during the forecasted weather conditions.
“We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any fire or rescue incidents immediately by calling 107 toll-free or 012 358 6300/6400. When reporting an emergency, please stay calm, speak clearly, provide your location and address accurately, and give your contact number in case the operator needs to call back,” the ESD said on Tuesday.
Disruptive rain is expected from Tuesday through Wednesday, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms.
The heavy rain increases the risk of localised flooding, particularly in low-lying areas, the department warned.
The City cautioned residents about potential disruptions, including power outages, traffic congestion, vehicle accidents, and soil erosion.
Residents were also advised to avoid outdoor activities, stay indoors, and steer clear of metal objects that could attract lightning.
Additionally, they were warned not to seek shelter under isolated trees during thunderstorms.
The ESD assured the public it would monitor weather conditions closely and remain on high alert for emergencies.
ESD also urged communities to stay informed by checking weather updates and following safety tips to mitigate risks.
