DA leader John Steenhuisen has heaped praise on Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean MacPherson for spearheading initiatives to transform South Africa into a construction site.
Steenhuisen addressed a gathering of DA MPs, ministers, and the media on the DA’s accomplishments in government and its stance on the Government of National Unity (GNU)
He said under Infrastructure South Africa’s pilot initiative in four municipalities, which will expand to 18 more, MacPherson aims to accelerate 82 Strategic Integrated Projects valued at R437 billion.
“He is fast-tracking 82 Strategic Integrated Projects worth R437 billion, with a focus on transport, water, energy, and housing,” said Steenhuisen.
“He has also attracted hundreds of millions of Rands in private sector interest to redevelop dilapidated government-owned buildings and will expand the programme after the first round of 27 has been completed.”
He further outlined the urgency for the GNU to implement policies driving economic growth and job creation, stressing that South Africa’s future hinges on these efforts.
Ahead of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday, Steenhuisen also outlined the DA’s role in pushing the ANC-led government to accelerate reforms while delivering tangible results in ministries under their control.
Steenhuisen further acknowledged Macpherson’s goal of leveraging infrastructure investments to spur 1.5% economic growth, aligning with the DA’s broader vision of fostering a robust economy that generates employment opportunities.
He said through targeted investments in critical sectors such as energy, water, sanitation, and transport, these initiatives aim to unlock private sector funding and stimulate essential infrastructure development.
