MEC for North West Agriculture and Rural Development, Madoda Sambatha, has handed over a cutting-edge 5,000-layer poultry facility at Bongi G Farm in Lindequesdrift, JB Marks Municipality, as part of the 4th Phase of the Accelerated Service Delivery Programme on Friday, April 25, 2025.

Sambatha said this was part of North West’s commitment to bolstering rural economies, alleviating poverty, and enhancing food security across the province.

“The handover is not just about providing a farm, it’s about creating growth opportunities, ensuring food security, and nurturing the essence of entrepreneurship within farmers,” said Sambatha.

The new facility represents a significant advancement for Bongi G Farm, poised to substantially increase egg production and integrate seamlessly into local food supply chains, thereby fostering job creation within the province.

Specializing in naturally grown, free-range poultry and eggs, Bongi G Farm ensures quality through regular grading by the South African Poultry Association (SAPA).

Sambatha encouraged Bongi G Farm to responsibly leverage these resources, advocating for sustainable agricultural practices that promise enduring benefits for future generations.

Expressing gratitude for the state-of-the-art poultry structure, Sibongile Gumede exclaimed: “I am deeply thankful to the department for this opportunity. It has not only enabled me to sustain myself and create jobs but has also empowered me to independently establish a 3,000-layer structure,” said an ecstatic Gumede.

The handover of the farm marks a momentous breakthrough in the province’s ongoing efforts to promote agricultural development, empowering local farmers and strengthening the agricultural sector, whilst ensuring that local farmers have the tools and support they need to thrive.
