The ANC has welcomed the outcome of the Ward 6 By-election in Thaba Chweu Local Municipality, Ehlanzeni Region, Mpumalanga, securing a decisive victory with 52.8% of the vote.
Following closely behind were the EFF with 27.9%, MK with 10.2%, and AUM with 7.75%.
In a celebratory post on X, the ANC congratulated Treva Mahlatsi Selepe on being elected as the leader for Ward 6, Thaba Chweu, Ehlanzeni Region, Mpumalanga.
Thaba Chweu’s seat is in Mashishing, formerly known as Lydenburg.
ANC National Spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu described the election result as a significant political moment.
“This victory in Ward 6 goes beyond electoral success; it is a declaration by the masses that they continue to view the ANC as their political home and the most credible force to lead South Africa into the future,” said Bhengu.
Bhengu expressed gratitude to the voters of Thaba Chweu for voting purposefully and acknowledged the efforts of the party’s activists, volunteers, branches, and disciplined members who engage daily with the community.
“We congratulate Comrade Treva Mahlatsi Selepe on his election and trust he will carry out this mandate with humility and strength. The people have spoken, and it is our duty to serve them with dignity and respect,” said Bhengu.
Furthermore, the ANC described this victory as a renewal of confidence in the party.
“This triumph reflects a growing belief in the African National Congress. It underscores the necessity and welcome nature of our renewal efforts, which are grounded in genuine, visible action. The ANC is rebuilding, reconnecting, and reclaiming its historic role as the trusted voice of the people. The people are with us, and we are moving forward,” Bhengu said.
