DA Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga has announced Mokete Motsamai as the party’s mayoral candidate for Lesedi Local Municipality ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections later this year.
Motsamai currently serves as the MMC for Development, Planning and Human Settlements in the Midvaal Municipality, a role he has held since 2024.
“Midvaal is Gauteng’s premier municipality. Just yesterday, they welcomed a R2 billion investment into the local economy. Business invests where services are guaranteed,” said Msimanga.
“The DA is ready, and believes that Mokete Motsamai, a long-time resident of the region, is the leader that Lesedi Local Municipality needs. He is the leader that will return basic service delivery, make Lesedi viable for business again, and return this municipality to a place its residents are proud to call home. We are proud to put Mokete forward as a candidate, and we look forward to his election come the local government election.”
Accepting the nomination, Motsamai said his priority would be to resolve Lesedi’s persistent water outages, strengthen infrastructure maintenance and improve service delivery.
He also pledged to restore governance and accountability through what he described as “daily leadership, clear standards, and visible consequences when standards are not met.”
“Residents complain about constant water interruptions and the daily uncertainty of whether there will be water at all. Families and businesses are forced to plan their lives around these outages. This is not how people should live; it is unacceptable,” Motsamai said.
He added that stabilising the water supply and repairing critical water infrastructure would be among his first priorities if elected.
Motsamai further committed to restoring proper planning, prioritising maintenance and investing in infrastructure capacity to meet residents’ long-term needs.
“I commit to regularly reporting back to communities on how public money is spent and providing updates on progress made,” he said.
“With the DA in the driving seat, change is not just promised, but possible,” Motsamai added.
