The Tshwane Bus Service was severely disrupted on Tuesday after all three of its depot filling stations ran dry, cutting scheduled operations and leaving commuters scrambling for alternatives.

The country is facing fuel-supply strain ahead of Wednesday’s fuel-price adjustment, which is expected to be announced on Tuesday.

MMC for Roads and Transport, Tlangi Mogale, said fuel supply problems affecting the city had curtailed normal bus operations.

“This situation has had a major impact on operations, resulting in a reduced number of buses in service and the disruption of scheduled trips,” Mogale said.

“From yesterday afternoon, only 65 out of the planned 155 shifts were able to operate, using the limited fuel that remained.”

She said no buses would run in the afternoon if fuel supplies were not restored in time.

Mogale said the municipality was engaging suppliers and expected deliveries later in the week, while acknowledging the disruption and added costs facing passengers.

“While alternative transport options may be limited and not always affordable, we urge passengers to make necessary arrangements to reach their destinations during this period,” she said.
