THE multi-million rand fraud and corruption case against former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede and 21 others has been transferred to the Durban High Court.
Gumede and her co-accused are due to appear on the 14th of June.
During their brief appearance in the Durban Magistrate’s Court, the state handed copies of the indictment to the accused.
The document is said to be 324 pages long and contains over 2700 charges.
Gumede is facing a total of 2,786 counts along with her co-accused.
Among Gumede’s co-accused are eThekwini municipal manager Sipho Nzuza and a number of business people.
The charges emanate from a 2017 Durban Solid Waste tender of over R400-million.
The former mayor was arrested in May 2019 on charges of corruption and was removed from the position of City mayor by the ANC in August that year.
