CHAIRPERSON of Parliament’s portfolio committee on Trade, Industry and Competition, Duma Nkosi, has died.
Nkosi died on Thursday at the age of 64.
Nkosi served as a member of the nation’s first democratic Parliament and went on to become the mayor of Ekurhuleni from 2001 to 2008.
At the time of his death, Nkosi, who hails from Thokoza in Ekurhuleni, was a member of National Assembly.
He previously served as chairperson of the portfolio committee on trade and industry and was also a member of the ANC in Gauteng.
City of Ekurhuleni mayor Tania Campbell said she was deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Nkosi.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the untimely passing of Former Executive Mayor and Former MP, Hon. Duma Nkosi. He was an astute politician who commanded an enormous amount of respect from his peers. I will always remember his gentle and diplomatic leadership approach,” said Campbell.
“As we embark on our journey as a newly formed multi-party coalition, we shall embrace Mayor Nkosi’s ability to constantly exercise political tolerance and humility in our duties. We will miss him dearly.”
The mayor also extended her heartfelt condolences to the Nkosi family, his friends and colleagues during this period of grief.
