The City’s Public Housing maintenance teams visited units on Plate Road, Rio Grande Walk, Ruth Court, and Redriver Road in Manenberg for repairs and maintenance.
The City’s Public Housing Department plans to invest over R1.2 billion in maintenance and repairs over the next coming years.
In the last financial year, the City said it has spent over 97% of its funding for human settlements.
The acting Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Siseko Mbandezi, said it was a privilege to visit public housing units and see the important maintenance work which is being carried out.
“Teams are carrying out carpentry, electrical and plumbing work at the units. We want to be certain that the thousands of tenants who live in our units across the metro feel comfortable and secure,” said Mbandezi.
Mbandezi expressed his appreciation to residents for working with the department.
He said it was the city’s goal to ensure that all tenants who live in their units across the metro feel comfortable and secure.
“We recently launched a Public Housing campaign which prioritises safety and maintenance. It is our goal that all tenants live in a safe and dignified manner, in all of our units. We are serious about the wellbeing of our tenants,” he said.
Early this year, the city launched a public housing capacity with an aim to provide better, secured and more dignified rental communities.
This is expected to boost investments in the maintenance and upgrade units in the area.
