The suspended head of legal and risk services in the City of Ekurhuleni has been arrested on Wednesday following a disciplinary hearing, increasing current pressure against them related to the Madlanga Commission.
The official came under scrutiny earlier this year when the commission probed delays in acting on recommendations from the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).

These recommendations called for disciplinary action against a senior metro police officer linked to a fraudulent blue-light security contract involving an alleged underworld figure, Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala.
In April, the Johannesburg High Court dismissed an urgent bid to halt internal disciplinary proceedings against the suspended legal executive.

The arrest is another matter and escalation in a widening scandal that has already seen senior municipal figures face charges in the Boksburg Regional Court, including allegations of impersonation and fraudulent contracts.
Key names related to the widening City of Ekurhuleni municipal scandal include the suspended head of legal and risk services, Julius Mkhwanazi, suspended EMPD Deputy Chief, and Kagiso Lerutla, former Ekurhuleni Municipal Manager.
