The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has fielded 2,001 candidates to contest all 921 wards in the province in the Local Government Elections on 4 November.
ANC KwaZulu-Natal provincial coordinator James Nxumalo briefed the media in Durban on Thursday on the outcomes of the party’s Extraordinary Political Task Team (PTT) meeting and its electoral preparations.
Nxumalo said the party’s renewal in KwaZulu-Natal was reflected in an inclusive candidate list, with women and young people making up a significant proportion of those selected.
“We are encouraged that this candidate list reflects the ANC’s continued commitment to renewing our movement and to representivity. More than a third of our candidates are women, and close to a third are young people, reflecting our determination to place a new generation of leaders and more women at the centre of governance in our municipalities,” he said.
