The Gauteng Department of Health on Saturday received R5.2 million worth of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from Transnet as part of national efforts to stem the tide of the coronavirus.
The donation took place at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, where most of the material will be utilized, according to the provincial department of health.
The company’s donation to the department comprised of 18 500 PPE kits, including 5 000 litres of hand sanitizer, 2 000 pairs of protective coveralls, 2 000 facemasks, 5 000 litres of germicidal hand soap, 1 000 disposable sleeve protectors, latex gloves, and infrared digital thermometers.
Gauteng MEC for Health, Dr Bandile Masuku, who oversaw the hand over, said Transnet’s PPE donation was procured through five small medium and micro-sized businesses.
