DISGRACED former Tshwane mayor Murunwa Makwarela is out on R10 000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to fraud charges at the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
The former COPE councillor faces two charges of fraud relating to an insolvency clearance certificate.
According to Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale, Makwarela is due to reappear in the same court on 02 May 2023 for disclosure and instructions.
Following his election as the xeecutive mayor of the City of Tshwane, Makwarela claimed to have been rehabilitated from his previous sequestration.
He was then requested by the City council to provide proof of rehabilitation.
The proof was provided on his behalf by his actuary, which upon further internal investigation by the city, was found to be fraudulent, hence the opening of a formal case with the police.
The case was referred to the Gauteng Serious Corruption Investigation for further investigation
