Angry residents barricaded the entrance of Phomolong with stones, trees and burning tyres during service delivery protests, leaving commuters stranded.

A total of 18 people were arrested for public violence.

Members of Public Order Policing were summoned to Hennenman in the Free State to attend to the situation.

“The situation is still tense however SAPS members of the Public Order Policing and Crime Intelligence Unit are on the ground to maintain law and order,” said Captain Stephen Thakeng on Wednesday.

Thakeng said Phomolong Satellite Police Station is still open to serve residents with services needed.

Residents are advised to consult the relevant authority to reach a negotiated settlement rather than resorting to violence.
