THE streets of X were busy with South Africans showing their support for the Durban raid on Tuesday where police raided buildings in the city and arrested 100 undocumented migrants, confiscated drugs worth millions of Rand, fake US Dollars and ammunition.
In a show of solidarity with police work, many took to X and went as far as suggesting that perhaps the departure of former police boss Bheki Cele was a blessing in disguise.
Support for KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi seems to be growing with social media users saying he gave them confidence that the matter of illegal immigrants is finally being handled after so many years of neglect.
The social media users say pressuring the government is the only way forward for the police to continue with this approach in other different parts of the country to clean up South Africa and rid it of criminals.
General Mkhwanazi has also been in the news for a spate of police killings of suspected robbers, hitmen and violent gangs terrorising communities in KwaZulu-Natal.
X user BafanaSurprise said that “Dear South Africans we are getting there, let’s continue bullying our Government to take us seriously about illegal foreigners residing in our country“.
General Mkhwanazi said that the objective of the Durban raid was to reduce criminal activities happening around the country.
KZN police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said that a suspected serial rapist was arrested during the raid. “The man was wanted for a series of rape and robbery cases which he allegedly committed at the Glebelands Hostel,” Netshiunda said.
X user JustNduh welcomed the arrest of the suspected serial rapist: “Finally, those South African women who are victims will all get justice,” he tweeted.
