The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced the recall of 2 989 units of Nutricia Aptamil Nutribiotik 2 and Nutricia Aptajunior Nutribiotik 3 after the manufacturer said a raw material used in the affected batches may carry traces of cereulide.
The affected batches are Aptamil Nutribiotik 2 (800g) with batch number 20260911 and expiry date 11 September 2026, Aptamil Nutribiotik 2 (800g) with batch number 20261209 and expiry date 9 December 2026, and Aptajunior Nutribiotik 3 (800g) with batch number 20261209 and expiry date 9 December 2026.

Cereulide is a toxin that at high levels of exposure can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps.
The NCC said the affected products were sold at Dis-Chem and Clicks, distributed nationally by United Pharmaceutical since August 2025, and were also exported to Botswana and Namibia.
“The NCC is monitoring this recall closely to ensure full compliance with the Consumer Protection Act and to safeguard consumer rights,” the regulator said. It urged consumers who bought the affected products and need more information to contact Nutricia Southern Africa through its website or careline.

This is the second infant formula recall announced by the NCC in South Africa this year. In January, it recalled NAN Special Pro HA Infant Formula 800g, batch number 51660742F3, after identifying a potential presence of cereulide.
