Durban is on the brink of a spectacular celebration as the Metro FM Music Awards 2026 take centre stage this weekend, promising a blend of glamour, electrifying performances, and unforgettable moments.
The prestigious awards ceremony will take place on Saturday at the Durban International Convention Centre, where South Africa’s biggest music stars will gather under one roof to celebrate excellence across the industry.
eThekwini municipality said visitors and music lovers should look forward to a full-scale entertainment experience, from star-studded red carpet arrivals and live performances by top-charting artists to high-energy after-parties and city-wide festivities.
“Durban has already come alive with pre-events, creating a vibrant atmosphere as fans and industry players descend on the city,” the municipality said.
The awards are expected to bring a boost to tourism, nightlife, and local business activity in Durban.
eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba encouraged visitors to fully immerse themselves in the city’s offerings:
“Our investment in tourism infrastructure, new experiences and partnerships ensure there is always something fresh to explore whether it’s outdoor adventure, township tourism or culture. We encourage our visitors to explore the City beyond the main event spaces and experience our tourism attractions.”
With voting closed, Amapiano continues to dominate the local music scene, and this year’s nominees highlight the genre’s powerhouse collaborations.
The Best Amapiano category nominated included Sam Deep, Nia Pearl, Boohle & Mano – Shela, DJ Maphorisa, Xduppy, Kabza De Small, Thatohatsi, Young Stunna & Nkosazana Daughter – Abantwana Bakho, DJ Maphorisa, Focalistic, Ricky Lenyora, Uncool MC, Mellow & Sleazy – Dlala Ka Yona.
DJ Jaivane, Smaki 08, Wesley Keys & De Rose – Lutho and Kabza De Small, Sykes, Young Stunna, Nkosazana, Tracy & Thatohatsi – Ngiyozama were also nominated.
With amapiano stars such as Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa and Sam Deep leading the charge, the category is expected to be one of the most competitive of the night.
“Safety will be guaranteed for all guests and visitors. The City’s safety plan is to ensure that the event is not only glamorous, but also safe, efficient and enjoyable,” the municipality said.
