The South African Police Service (SAPS) has appointed Lieutenant General Sizakhele William Dyantyi as the new Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, with the veteran officer taking over at a time when gang violence, organised crime and violent crime continue to plague the province.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane announced the appointment in Cape Town on Wednesday, saying Dyantyi will officially assume office on Saturday.
His appointment forms part of SAPS’ organisational renewal programme, which includes the appointment of new provincial commissioners in the Western Cape, North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

The appointment comes after a wave of weekend shootings in Cape Town and Stellenbosch in which 11 people were killed in separate incidents – assumed to be gang-related — and as Operation Prosper continues joint deployments by the SAPS and the defence force
