WATCH: KZN Health to suspend nurse after video shows patient struck at Durban hospital

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health says it will place a nurse at Durban’s King Dinuzulu Hospital on precautionary suspension after a video circulating on social media appeared to show her striking a male patient during a heated exchange.

The department said on Wednesday that a full internal investigation would be conducted.

The 45-second video, which does not provide the full context of what led to the confrontation, shows the nurse appearing to strike or poke the patient on the forehead while admonishing him.

“I do not work only for you, you hear me. I do not work for you,” she tells the patient in isiZulu, appearing to indicate that she is responsible for other patients in the ward and is not there to attend only to his needs.
