Johannesburg Water has told residents in parts of Bezuidenhout Valley to continue refraining from using tap water until further test results have been assessed, despite earlier samples meeting the required water-quality standards.
In a statement on Monday, Johannesburg Water confirmed that samples collected last week had met the required standards, including confirmation from the final test outcomes.
The utility said a second set of samples was collected on Sunday, 25 October, as an additional precaution, although a water supply interruption had delayed the sampling process.
“The affected properties are along 8th Avenue, at the corners of 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Streets,” it said.
“Customers must continue to refrain from using the water until Johannesburg Water issues an official clearance notice. Tankering will continue while the restriction remains in place.”

It said residents would be notified once the follow-up results had been assessed and official water-quality clearance issued.
The precautionary warning comes as water safety remains under scrutiny in Gauteng following a separate contamination crisis in Bronkhorstspruit, where 408 cases of gastrointestinal illness were recorded between 7 and 18 October, mostly involving children under the age of four.
The City of Tshwane has launched an independent investigation into the Bronkhorstspruit crisis to establish the circumstances surrounding the contamination and determine which officials should be held accountable.
