Increased traffic police presence as festive season comes to an end

The Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP) is intensifying law enforcement operations across the province in an effort to ensure the safe return of holidaymakers.

GTP spokesperson Sello Maremane said that major routes were especially busy on Sunday, with many residents returning as the festive season ends.

“The heightened traffic police visibility is aimed at ensuring road safety and reducing road crashes along the major routes in the province,” Maremane said.

He said heavy traffic flows were expected on major routes from Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West KwaZulu-Natal, Free State and the Western Cape.

Maremane said in order to ensure the safety of all road users, the GTP had offered road safety tips.

Motorists are advised to overtake only when it safe to do so and to comply with traffic rules, including switching on headlamps to enhance visibility during rain.
