168 cases of HFMD confirmed in KZN, eThekwini Municipality leads in infections

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health has announced the outbreak of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) in the province, reporting a total of 168 cases to date.

The majority of these cases, 120 in total, have been identified in the eThekwini Municipality.

Following this, King Cetshwayo District has reported 25 cases, uGu District has recorded 20 cases, and uMkhanyakude District has confirmed three cases.

Health department spokesperson Ntokozo Maphisa urged the public to stay calm but also be mindful of good hygiene practices. 

“We are concerned about these numbers, but in the same breath we would like to appeal for calm. It is important for people to understand HFMD, including what it is, how it can be prevented, its symptoms and how is transmitted,” said Maphisa.
