KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) MEC Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi has praised several municipalities within the province for their exceptional performance in the usage of the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG).
Buthelezi said their good performance has resulted in an additional allocation of funding, totalling R30 million, being awarded to these high-achieving municipalities.
“The allocation will be used to improve access to basic services such as roads, water and sanitation within these municipalities,” said Buthelezi on Monday.
Among those commended for their outstanding performance are the uMgungundlovu District Municipality, receiving a R10 million boost.
Close behind, the Zululand District Municipality secured R6 million, while Ulundi Local Municipality, Okhahlamba Local Municipality, and uBuhlebezwe Local Municipality each received allocations of R3 million, R1.5 million, and R1.5 million, respectively.
The Greater Kokstad Local Municipality and uMzumbe Local Municipality were awarded R7 million and R1.5 million, rounding out the league of top achievers.
