The investigation into the murder of Xolile Kalipa, a beloved Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor in Stellenbosch, remains ongoing, with the South African Police Service (SAPS) working to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
The 54-year-old councillor Kalipa was shot dead in Kayamandi on Sunday night.
According to police spokesperson Wesley Twigg, officers responded to a shooting complaint and found Kalipa with gunshot wounds to the chest. He was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.
“The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation. The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested,” said Twigg.
The Stellenbosch Municipality has expressed sadness and shock at the loss of Kalipa, describing him as a “much-loved and deeply respected community leader”.
