IFP announces Mkhuleko Hlengwa as eThekwini Municipality’s mayoral candidate

Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) President Velenkosini Hlabisa has officially announced Mkhuleko Hlengwa as the party’s mayoral candidate for the eThekwini Municipality.

Hlengwa, who currently serves as Deputy Minister of Transport and is the national spokesperson for the IFP, will lead the party’s charge in Durban to contest one of South Africa’s most strategically important metros in the upcoming 2026 Local Government Elections.

He will be joined by Sizwe Skhakhane, who has been named as the deputy mayoral candidate.

The announcement comes ahead of the IFP’s manifesto launch scheduled for 20 September 2026 at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu, Durban.

The Local Government Elections are set for 4 November 2026, with parties across the spectrum intensifying campaigns.
