THE Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has called for the 2021 Local Government Elections to be postponed to 2024.
This would be the first time elections are postponed in post-apartheid South Africa.
The party’s leader Julius Malema said voting will be risky, as elections can be regarded as ‘super-spreaders’ of COVID-19.
Malema said the EFF will try to get other political parties on board about merging local and national elections in three years’ time.
“We reiterate our call for the consolidation of the electoral system in South Africa, to one set of elections where Local and National Government Elections are conducted at once,” said Malema.
