The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has entered into a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the Gauteng Provincial Department of Roads and Transport (GPDRT) to rebuild, upgrade, and maintain traffic signals across various intersections managed by the Gauteng Province.
The collaboration aims to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance road safety by ensuring consistent signal functionality.
Currently overseeing 2,023 signalized intersections, the JRA will integrate an additional 275 intersections managed by Gauteng Province.
Due to resource constraints, initial efforts will prioritize upgrades and maintenance on critical economic and major routes, supporting Johannesburg’s key economic hubs.
Key roads include Winnie Mandela Drive, Beyers Naudé Drive, Allandale Road, Malibongwe Drive, Grayston Drive, Witkoppen Road, Golden Highway, Kliprivier Drive, Hendrik Potgieter Drive, Ontdekkers Road, Heidelberg Road, Soweto Highway, and Chris Hani Road.
These enhancements will not only improve safety and security but also incorporate advanced technologies to optimise traffic flow within Johannesburg.
