South African National Parks (SANParks) said that since 1 October, visitors were paying, and to date the centre has generated revenue in excess of R1 million.
Encouragingly, said SANParks, the majority of visitors were local travellers, with the home province Free State contributing the biggest chunk of visitors (57 138), followed by Gauteng (14 678) and KwaZulu-Natal (3 230).
SANParks spokesman JP Louw said the attraction was also supporting local jobs and tourism demand.
