The Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has flighted its first poster outside the Hilton Municipality offices, signalling the continuation of the party’s election campaign ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections (LGE) later this year.
The party’s uMngeni Local Municipality Mayor Chris Pappas said that the DA has established stability at the Municipality, urging voters to sustain the party’s tenure with the promise that incumbent councillors of the party will ensure continuity of services.

“Make sure that on the registration weekends on the 21st of June, you get out there and register correctly so that we can defend the gains that we have made here in uMngeni so that we can continue to make progress for everyone,” he said.
Pappas and DA provincial leader, Sithembiso Ngema were addressing the media during the flighting of the party’s first 2026 LGE campaign posters and the launch of the campaign slogan “Register To Keep Our Town Working.”
With the elections anticipated to be tightly and fiestly contested between seasoned political parties and new formations, the voter registrations for the 2026 LGE will open on 20 to 21 June across voting stations in the country, where citizens can confirm their illegibility to vote and register at the voting stations close to them.
Pappas emphasised the call to residents to register to vote, saying that he acknowledges that the party has not achieved all its objectives of service delivery in the past 5 years of his mayoralship.
“Voters have given us a chance [in the past] to show that with the little power we have had, we were able to bring a huge difference. We will continue to appeal to the voters that they give us 5 more years,” Pappas added.
Meanwhile, Ngema emphasised the party signals major intentions that it wants to continue leading uMngeni saying that they do not want “chaotic parties” to assume power citing disruptions of continuity with regards to service delivery and other projects currently embarked upon under DA leadership.
“We do not want chaotic parties to take over. We want DA to lead the Municipality. It is not us the DA who are saying we are the best leaders when it comes to government, but President Cyril Ramaphosa himself made it clear the only party that delivers to our people is the DA,” Ngema said.
