A large part of eThekwini is facing water restrictions to help replenish reservoir levels supplied by Durban Heights Water Treatment Works.
The municipality said on Saturday restrictions are affecting supply systems from the water treatment works to the northern and southern aqueducts, as well as the Pinetown system.
These pipelines supply water to the northern and southern areas, as well as parts of Pinetown.
It said in a statement that rebuilding reservoir storage capacity is critical to maintaining the required hydraulic grade and ensuring that water reaches areas at the end of the distribution network.
High water demand has depleted reservoir levels, particularly affecting parts of Pinetown South, Nagina, Folweni, Demat, KwaSanti, Inteke, Luganda, and Washington Heights.
“The municipality acknowledges the impact of these interruptions on affected communities and is implementing these measures to support reservoir recovery and improve the reliability of water supply, particularly in areas experiencing ongoing outages.”
