The Western Cape Police are offering a R100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of gunmen who killed four people and injured three others at the Mfuleni taxi rank.
This after Western Cape’s Taxi Violence Unit, operating under Serious and Violent Crime Detectives, launched a full investigation into the deadly shooting.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen entered the taxi rank office and opened fire on those inside, specifically targeting taxi owners.
Four operators were killed, with two dying inside a private car at the rank and two inside the office.
Three others, including a commuter, were injured and have been hospitalized.
The Western Cape Police believe that two gunmen were involved and are diligently pursuing leads to apprehend them.
Bongani Maqhashalala, Deputy Provincial Police Commissioner for Crime Detection, indicated that the motive may be related to taxi routes, though investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, Anroux Marais, Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, strongly condemned the senseless violence.
“I condemn this senseless act and urge SAPS to spare no effort in apprehending those responsible,” Marais said.
“We cannot tolerate this situation in our communities.”
Police have urged anyone with information about the shooting to step forward and claim the R100,000 reward.
Crime scene experts continue to comb the area for further evidence, and the investigation remains active.
