Italian premier football league Serie A clubs agreed Wednesday to resume competition next month after matches were stopped because of the coronavirus.

“As regards the resumption of sporting activity, the date of 13 June for the resumption of the championship was indicated, in accordance with government decisions and in accordance with the medical protocols for the protection of players and all professionals,” the league said.

The announcement came after the league’s board and teams met for a videoconference to pick an available date to resume the 2019-2020 season. Matches would begin pending government approval.

The coronavirus pandemic forced Serie A to halt league matches in March just as Italy was experiencing an exciting championship race between Juventus and Lazio.

Juventus was atop the league with 63 points. Lazio was right behind with 62.

Inter Milan was in the third spot with 54 points.

Italy reported 195 new fatalities from coronavirus Wednesday, bringing its death toll to 31,106.
