The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed the arrest of a 24-year-old man in Reiger Park in connection with the murders of two Anti-Gang Unit officers and two women, as police intensify their investigation into the deadly shooting that shocked the Ekurhuleni community.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday afternoon following an intensive tracing operation by a multidisciplinary team comprising the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), SAPS Anti-Gang Unit and Flying Squad.
The arrest brings to two the number of suspects in custody in connection with the four murders.
“This arrest is not only a victory for SAPS; it is also a demonstration of the power of a community that refuses to be silenced by criminals,” said Acting National Commissioner of Police Lt Gen Puleng Dimpane.
