Tshwane and the city’s tourism association have adopted a number of initiatives to decrease crime and attract tourists to the capital city.

“I believe that measures taken to strengthen collaboration between the city and Tshwane Tourism Association will enhance safety and security across all regions of Tshwane,” the city’s community safety MMC, Ald Grandi Theunissen, said.

This follows a “productive” meeting between the MMC and the association. According to Theunissen, attracting tourists to the city would stimulate local economic growth and promote job creation.

“Further discussions between the City of Tshwane and the Tshwane Tourism Association will continue in the future to refine these initiatives and ensure smooth implementation,” Theunissen said on Monday.

The MMC mentioned that the city’s long-term strategy for growth and prosperity depended on the safety of tourists.

The city is home to the Union Buildings, with government-related business playing an important role in the local economy.

The MMC also encouraged cooperation and support from the community in creating a safer city for everyone.

“Enhanced safety measures will not only benefit tourists but also improve the quality of life of our residents, contributing to a thriving local economy,” said Theunissen.

The city follows a community-based policing approach which allows law enforcement agencies to “take hands” with tourists, businesses, residents and private security companies, he said.
