Free State police apprehended 22 suspects wanted in connection with rape cases, 10 sought for other sexual offences and seven linked to murders during tracking operations across the province.

Another 11 suspects wanted for attempted murder and 67 sought for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm were among 308 wanted people apprehended by detectives during raids conducted under Operation Shanela II.

“308 wanted suspects were apprehended during track and tracing raids conducted by detectives as part of weekly planned Operation Shanela II,” Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane said on Monday.

The suspects are expected to appear in various courts soon.
Covane said a further 1,015 suspects were arrested during high-density deployments carried out by multidisciplinary and integrated law enforcement teams across the province.
