The Parkview Residents’ Association (PRA) has said that retrospective approval for a demolished Parkview home could set a precedent for protected heritage buildings to be demolished before permission is sought.
The residents’ association has formally asked the Provincial Heritage Resources Authority – Gauteng (PHRA-G) to reject a retrospective application concerning the demolition of the house at 69 Westcliff Drive.

The association said the property, which dated from about 1913, was protected under Section 34 of the National Heritage Resources Act.
“A 2021 heritage assessment by Mayat Hart Architects concluded that the house possessed heritage significance, remained substantially intact, retained significant architectural fabric and contributed positively to the historic streetscape of Parkview,” the association said.
“The assessment recommended that the building be retained and adaptively reused.”
